Despite also being a pre-eminent nerd at the time I don't think I could tell you what the overall community is like. My understanding of witchcraft was mostly second-hand, I rarely engage online at all. I was brought into such things via my peers primarily.
And alas the drinking didn't involve any ritual shenanigans. Though I can distinctly remember having to carry someone home on that fine day. Teenagers are lightweights.
This channel used to be rather more pro magic on IRC. What happened to those folks? :P (IIRC it also required you to join it voluntarily, although I think that was just IRC. )
He was pinged by someone asking about something not long before he left, I think less than a week before probably. I remember them being somewhat close in time but now I remember less the closeness. Or maybe it was longer than a week.(edited)
Well funny thing about that is that the ‘deepest’ part of a persons sleep cycle is slow wave sleep (because it’s the most difficult to wake someone up during that part of the cycle) and yet during that part you’re likely to have dreams or even sleep walk depending on the person so even the closest thing to death you can experience during sleep is the same time where you can be ‘conscious’ during a dream or have your body move around due to sleepwalking
Yeah when I say "deep sleep is lile death" I mean dreamless sleep, just in terms of the absence of experience. No idea what the brainwaves look like in dreamless sleep though
I wasn’t trying to negate your quote, I was just pointing out the fact that even the closest thing life can experience to death is still teeming with aspects one would consider life to have
I wasn't trying to negate you either, I was just clarifying that by the "the closest thing to death" I didn't mean in terms of lack of brain activity, but in terms of the absence of experience

Which you made me realize wasn't necessarily the same thing, which is interesting
Do we know how much sleep is dreamless, or if anything else is happening during that time? I know some people claim not to dream, but my understanding is what is really happening is (like us), they just aren't remembering their dreams.

Interestingly, I'm seeing that there is a deep-sleep state before REM sleep (stages 3/4 of the sleep cycle, of the 5 stages), wherein traditionally it was thought there was no dreams that occurred but that may be outdated information. It seems to be more accurate that we have less vivid, cohesive dreams at that point. There's no true point of complete void during the sleep stages as far as I can see.
Wondering how long dreams last and if we dream every night? Sleep science has come a long way, and researchers are getting closer to answering these questions.

That said, I was specifically referring to REM sleep as the "deepest" form of sleep. And in REM you are specifically dreaming. The characteristic eye movements are caused by visualization in the same way as they are in deep hypnosis from what I gather.

In REM your brainwaves become reminiscent of a wakeful state, unlike the others, if I recall rightly.(edited)

With reduced frequency across the board but a similar pattern.

Wow, I learned something new! Thanks

That's what I was referring to as "deep sleep", our nightly rendezvous with death
are there any tips for meditating and would it help to listen to my favourite music which is like very heavy and basically rock in meditation or would it hinder it
It depends. If you are focusing on the manipulation of energy you should not be focusing on anything else ideally. You can meditate with music as the focus or you can meditate with music as long as it merely helps you unfocus on your surroundings, but you cannot be focusing on both the music and the meditation.

I'd agree insofar as certain forms of meditation geared towards emptying thought are concerned. But some forms are essentially visualized autosuggestion. Chakra manipulation, stuff like that, I'd say that falls firmly into the light category whereas the emptying and achieving void category is as you say, darkness.(edited)

IMO meditation is literally the opposite of trying to manipulate yourself and others :p
I wonder if there is a connection between the fact that I dont believe there is a soul thats separate from the body and the fact that I believe guilt/shame ("morality") is one of the 5 human sins (in the original sense of the word - error) :p
1. Guilt and shame
2. Blame and hatred
3. Pride and arrogance
4. Worry and anxiety
5. Expectation and resistance
Which all arise out of a combination of falsely believing that 1) people are separate agents independent from life, and that 2) happiness is the result of pleasant circumstance, whereas unhappiness is the result of painful circumstance.(edited)
